The software was designed for investigating quadratic equations and functions and the effect of parameter values on their properties and graphic representation.
The software enables the student the ability to explore in detail either the
Standard Form y = ax2 + bx + c   or
the Canonic Form y = a(x – x
0)2 +y0 (where the (x0 , y0) are the coordinates of the vertex), which is the simpler representation based on the "completing the square" method. The transition between the two forms is explained and presented in detail. The detailed calculation of the transition is updated when changing any parameter.
While the solution of the General equation is obtained only after calculation, it is almost impossible to understand the effects of the parameter values in the General form. In the Canonic form, on the other hand, these effects are easily understood.
It is recommended to teach and learn the transition from the Standard form of the quadratic equation to its Canonic form using the "completing the square" technique.
It will then be easy to understand the properties of quadratic equations.
